Re: Need help with this stunt driving charge

What happened: I was driving home from school in my car (85 trans am) and i was following 2 buses on a long straight stretch (60 zone) with a broken line for passing. I was doing 60 and so were the buses but an 80 zone was up ahead so i pulled out and started passing them doing between 60-70 and when we entered the 80 zone sped up to 80-90. When i ...

Re: When best to request disclosure ? ...

thanks guys ...

this answer a lot of questions for me.

good to get the information on ADLS (7 day), not being intended to have effects on insurances rates ...

Hopefully, proceeding to trial, can be avoided. Winning, in this scenario, is more about cutting your losses.

Re: When best to request disclosure ? ...

The summons date is NOT your trial date. You will show up and they will ask you how you want to plead, guilty or not guilty. Your options are:

1- Plead guilty -not recommended-
2- Plead not guilty and request disclosure and they will set a trial date for you.
3- Request disclosure before you decide how to plead and they will set another summons ...

When best to request disclosure ? ...

Received summons for "stunt driving - speeding" less than 2 weeks ago ... summons court date in second week of May.

How soon can your request disclosure?
Is there any negative consequence to requesting it before the summons date?
Is there any significant value to having the disclosure before the summons date?
Court is Caledon Provincial ...

Yep, MLA and a few others, Minister of Transportation ....

I doubt one person, writing or voicing opinions would have much effect. Hopefully others do as well, if they feel it's warranted.

Re: Stunt driving ?? - 135 in 80 zone

I did receive temporary license in the mail today. It also states a non-temporary one will follow shortly. Though I have not paid any re-instatements fees yet. And the mailing does not include the amount required.

It's good that they do that ... saves some frustration, of having to go to an MTO location. I probably would have had this before the 7 ...

Re: Stunt driving ?? - 135 in 80 zone

thx for all responses ..

see what happens on summons/court date.

I'm not very impressed with officers stalking out speed limit change areas and issuing stunt driving tickets ... which seems to be a common occurrence ... certainly not the way to gain public support.

Re: No seatbelt/no licence on highway

Different province ... atlantic canada ...

Stopped / ticketed for no seatbelt ... 2-3 blocks from my house, still in residential area, vehicle speed 20-30kph.

I decided to not pay ticket and take my chances in court .. in that province you can make that selection on the ticket itself and mail it in.

Was having some problem with leg for approx ...

Re: Stunt driving ?? - 135 in 80 zone

I had a look at Google maps. The sign saying the speed drops to 80 is clearly visible. If you've driven the road quite a lot then you're just not paying attention..

Google maps looks to be an older video capture, those are not updated overly frequently. It shows one sign. The sign, the tow truck driver pointed out had multiple signs around it ...

Re: Stunt driving ?? - 135 in 80 zone

Update:

Thx for responses ...

Looking at google maps, the location of the speeding offense was just past/at the ValleyWood exit on hwy 410 north. Very shortly after that, 1km maybe, you're on hwy 10.

On that day, for some reason, I thought I was before the first Valleywood exit sign where the speed limit is higher. I was waiting to see the ...

Re: Stunt driving ?? - 135 in 80 zone

interesting article from the orangeville citizen [2014] .. mentioning the "problems" encountered on the north end of hwy 410, mostly by people with no intention of excessive speeding. The quite obvious solution is simply sufficient signage ... If the real concern was safety and appropriate speed limits, I'm sure that would already be done.

Also ...

thanks for links bobajob .. it is helpful ...

because it is referred to as stunt driving, it falls into a different category of seriousness. Stunt driving, in most people minds, implies something different so I can understand prosecutors being quite hard line about this stuff.

Re: Stunt driving ?? - 135 in 80 zone

thanks for replying ...

The speed caught on radar was a momentary speed, while merging into the outside lane from the inside lane to go around a particularly slower moving vehicle. So I would suspect the traffic flow was moving at 110-120 before I merged to the outside.

But my real issue is what jetblue mentioned. The speed limit change isn't ...

Re: Stunt driving ?? - 135 in 80 zone

Looking thru documents just now ... the offense is citing s stunt driving - speeding.

Also did not have drivers license, registration, insurance card in vehicle ... was at home on desk .. had it out for another reason ....

Included with the summons are summons/offenses ... failure to surrender drivers license, vehicle registration, and insurance ...
