But just so we're clear for the original poster, you're referring to an arrest or the offence of drive suspended only. Obviously there's no authority to arrest if the offence is just expired sticker, regardless of how many times the offence has been committed. Just didn't want to leave him with the wrong impression.

OK can I ask you guys this ? My son who is now 17 and I used to take road trip back home to Nova Scotia every summer. We did from 2000 right until 2009 when my sticker expired. We loved it, we would take our time, stop in hotels etc etc. It's been a highlight of our times together. We haven't been home since 2009 and it's breaking my heart. My son is missing his family down there and of course I'm missing them. If I were to drive with an expired sticker can the police in NS do anything ?

I imagine all Provinces would have laws requiring motor vehicles to have valid permits. The law in Ontario applies to all vehicles, even those with non Ontario plates/registrations.

They sure can. So can the cops in Quebec.

If you go through the US, be forewarned that driving with expired plates in some states is an arrestable offence, even if "you ain't from 'round here."

OK, a cop actually told me to do this. He said that if I registered the car in someone elses name I woudn't have to pay the tickets. My son is 17 but he doesn't have his license. Can I register the car in his name and avoid the tickets for now ?

He's wrong. You still have to pay the tickets.
