I got a speeding ticket for 52$ no points just shy of 3 years ago (4 weeks shy). i just got my first car(was driving my parents at the time) and my insurance company called telling me my insurance went up (not a lot, but still)

can they do that? i had no demert points to effect my record , i thought it only effected insurance rates if yo had demerit points.

thanks in advance

Rates are affected by conviction type (minor, major, and serious). 15 over falls in the minor category so it can affect your insurance.
