30 Over In A 60 Zone

by: jlm on

Hi there,

I just got a speeding ticket today. This is only the 2nd in my whole life & the 1st one was almost 10 years ago. The ticket was not reduced at all so I now have a ticket for $220. The spot where I was pulled over was near the bottom of a hill and just past the part in the street where the speed limit changed from 70 to 60.

I called OTT Legal and they told me that their charge would be $250 plus HST and if they couldn't get the charge thrown out, then they could probably only get it reduced to 3 points and a lesser fine.

Should I bother hiring them or should I just to do it myself? If I choose to do it myself, does anyone have any tips?

Nothing wrong with trying to do it yourself first, especially if you're happy with just a reduction. Request a first attendance meeting and meet with the Crown. It's pretty much guaranteed they'll offer you a deal to a reduced speed (with reduced points) and a lower fine. If you don't like the outcome of the meeting, you can hire representation afterwards.
