Will I Get A Ticket? - Small Wind Deflectors

by: Lotus 7 on

Hi,

I have a small british roadster - Lotus (Caterham) Super Seven. I'm thinking of replacing my wind shield with small adjustable wind screens without wipers (called brooklands aeroscreens). The modification is reversible.

Am I really going to get stopped and charged $200 in Ontario as I will not have a working set of wipers?

I do live right around the corner from an OPP station.

I'll give you my standard answer: "It depends"

1) Do you get caught?

2) Is it actually raining out?

2) Every Officer is an individual and can use their own discretion.

Look at it like rolling dice, sometimes you roll boxcars and sometimes snake eyes.

How you react during the vehicle stop may influence the outcome as well.

Personally i'd probably give you what we call a traffic notice to remedy the problem within 2 days and report to the police station.

Just my two cents and other officers might ticket you.

If a officer knows enough about vehicles and knows that the vehicle does come with a proper windshield and wipers, possibly a unsafe vehicle charge ??? as the vehicle no longer meets minimum vehicle standards as manufactured and plates can be removed and vehicle towed from the highway

Above is merely a suggestion/thought and in no way constitutes legal advice or views of my employer. www.OHTA.ca

I would definitely agree with a charge for unsafe vehicle here, because imo the wipers are essential in Canada considering our weird weather patterns here. I mean when they say its not going to rain, it rains, and then, when they say its not going to snow, it snows!
