The next thing I want to do is perhaps install a swivel mount where I can swivel my camera from front windshield to the back windshield. This way, for your defense at court, all statements are recorded, and if it's a case of mistakenly identifying a vehicle, then that would be recorded on video camera as well. A modern video camera on a 16 gig sd chip can record 100's of hours of driving at a time. The other thing I want to be able to do is to be able to record in real time as well as have a date stamp your speedometer readings. The next time a police officer pulls me over to accuse me of speeding, I can say, no I haven't and I have the proof right here, maybe be able to replay the speedometor readings right infront of him. Anybody know how I can achieve this? Do you guys believe this would work?

actually, I can manage to mount my camer just behind me to record my speedometer in real time as well as the road. The only problem is, it would be a rather awkward placement. On the ceiling of my vehicle directly behind me and I would end up damaging the fabric.

Has your speedometer been certified? How often would it have to be calibrated? An errant speedometer is not a defence... You must get stopped a lot. Why? I bet the average driver gets stopped once every 10-15 years...I'm thinking rather than get a video camera, you need to go out and get yourself a clue if you are getting stopped that often. My mustang brings all the girls in the yard and Popo's as well. Yes, I get stopped often, like twice a year. Yes, I know I don't speed. I also like to drive on long trips on terrible weekends like that dreaded May 24 or that labor day weekend where the police think they can stop anyone they want. If I wanted to get away with speeding, I would instead try out radar detectors or one of those laser scaterers. Boy, some people just can't think.

Sure, how much could it could, find a garage with a dynonometer and having it certified once a year should be no problem, this way I can prove it's always acurate. Besides, a video camera mounted in your car can have other benefits. Like catching crazy driving and posting them on Youtube. Lol.

Strange I had an 05 Mustang (the nice new retro style) when they first came out...drive all over TO and cottage country, prior to that an 03 BMW M3, my wife had an Auti TT Covertible...I think we can agree those are flashy cars...add my Italian Sportsbike to the equation for that matter... No officers in the GTA / OPP would know my cars... I NEVER get stopped..not once. Why? Keep it to 10-15 km/h over the limit. Thats weird.... I was in a traffic court and witnessed quite a few ticketed for 85 or thereabouts in an 80 zone. It is a well known fact that cops pull over showy cars especially those with tints etc...

Instead of mounting the camera to the ceiling of the ca,r have a tripod on the floor of the rear seats. Just find a way to fasten the tripod to the floor so it doesn't become a projectile if you crash.

Errant speedometer is not a defence to speeding under s. 128. However, according to the Ontario Court of Appeal, an errant speedometer is a defence to stunt driving (50 km/h or more over limit) as it is a strict liability offence. If your speedometer was reading 49 km/h over the limit or less, and you can prove it, you would be found not guilty of stunt driving. Speeding yes, but stunt driving no.

Errant speedometer is not a defence to speeding under s. 128.

Doing 50 in a 50 zone, going straight through the intersection (thus not slowing down to make turn or anything like that), the light was green when I entered the intersection and was just turning yellow as I made it to the other end. I got pulled over and handed that ticket and still don't know why. Before you bring my other unwarranted ticket into doubt, here's what happened there. I pulled into the HOV just to make a right turn into a parking lot. They were running an HOV trap in the parking lot that was just before it and waved me in as soon as I made the lane change. I had parking slips from my intended lot on my person (as a part of an expense report) to prove that I just went into the HOV lane to make the right turn, but the constable still gave me a ticket and told me to take it to court. If I had video evidence both of those constables would have been chewed up by any reasonable JP for wasting the court's time. By the way, I got other tickets that I deserved, but those two were pure bovine excrement.

The system worked because the constable made a fatal error on the ticket and it took hundreds of dollars that I couldn't really afford (being a broke student in my early 20's at the time of the incident) that went to a paralegal who spotted it and dealt with it. Had I made it into court within a reasonable amount of time, without video evidence or a major error by the Crown, chances are I would have been convicted (witness or no witness).

Well, if it is a true night-time camera, then it should "see" the lidar beam, and when, or whether, it is hitting your car, no :P ? I agree that the number of legitimate speeding charges laid is very high, but the idea here is to try and catch a suspected abuser. Speedometer? have another tiny camera record a time-stamped, super-low res video of the speedometer alone :lol:

There are tools out there that say they can detect radar or lidars. I don't know if it has to actually hit your car or not to be detected. Then you can record the time. At least you might be able to date and time stamp. So far, I figure that with a swivel mount, you might be able to record evidence of whats infront of your car or even in back. Say identifying wether your going through a red light or not. Maybe your speeding because of an unreasonable tailgater who refuses to pass you even thaught there is a second open lane available. Some 18wheelers like to do that. Evidence in an accident to me can be the one biggest reason to have a live dash mounted camera in the car recording as you drive. If the evidence is showing you that your crossing your intersection on your green and suddenly (BAM) your T-boned. If the occupants of the other vehicle wishes to argue that fact, (Saying they had the green for example) with video evidence. I suspect it would be a very short court appearance in your favour. Even with witnesses the video would probably be conclusive evidence.

This could work if you don't mind fighting one extra ticket because radar detectors are illegal in Ontario. But hey you're going to be in court that day anyways might as well make it count :lol:

IMO it isnt speed that kills. I find transport trucks infact help keep the road going. With cars that choose to not move to the right and slow down the middle lane the trucks would try to pass in their passing lane therefore the slower traffic would move right.
